Well it started off as a revamp of the original No Mans Land, to address problems with lag and connectivity. The layout I came up with was so different from the original it became a map in it's own right, hence nml3 was born.
If you're looking for a totally mind-blowingly original map, this ain't it. It's a CTF like the original, partly due to the fact that NML was a CTF, and also due to the fact that simple ideas are usually less hassle, more fun to play in a clan environment (the main purpose of the map), and less buggy.

One of the problems associated with NML was the fact that the NML itself would tend to cause people to detract from the true purpose of the map, which is to cap the enemy flag. People would tend to gather in the NML and just kill and spam each other, which caused significant problems with lag. This new version contains an optimized NML (r_speeds significantly improved), with a mortar that targets players going across it. In essence, if you stay in one spot for too long you are likely to be blown up by the mortars falling from above. If you are clever you can time the mortars to kill anybody pursuing you across the nml, which is VERY satisfying :) So... no hanging around in the nml, move your ass or get it blown to pieces :P

The other major gripe about the map was that it only had one way to the Flag, and that a very small entrance. The bases have been totally redesigned so that there are atleast two or more ways to get to any part of the base, and there are three entrances to the flag room itself.

The new map is BIG, which in one sense makes it difficult to defend, but the time it takes the enemy to get back to your base is sufficient that the defence can usually re-group in time. Beware though, a well coordinated attack using all three Flag room entrances is VERY difficult to defend against.

That's pretty much all I think, just left to say thanks for taking an interest in the map, and I hope you won't be dissapointed when you play it :)

Cheers

UncleBRUCE (a.k.a. Keith Schoen)
